Volunteer Coordinator

Summer Student Position

This position is responsible maintain and increase the volunteer capacity for the Simon Fraser branch of CMHA.  We are looking for an individual who has a working knowledge and understanding of Mental Health and the non profit or charitable environment.  You have excellent organizational and communication skills.  You are comfortable with public speaking and have experience in attending community events.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the volunteer database from existing and new volunteers continue to work on volunteer recruitment and retention, and develop a comprehensive volunteer strategy. The Volunteer Coordinator may occasionally assist with administrative tasks of the organization.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be supervised by the Executive Director. The work will support CMHA-SF, which provides coaching, housing programs, outreach, and hope to those living with mental illness.

Skills Required

  1. Excellent knowledge and experience of volunteering
  2. Demonstrated ability to produce quality results
  3. Excellent use of Microsoft Office
  4. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  5. Strong research skills
  6. Ability to organize
  7. Willingness to learn

  10. Fluency in English

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a volunteer database.
  • Continue to recruit and retain volunteers.
  • Develop and implement an orientation strategy for new volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer strategy.
  • Assist in the coordination of existing and new volunteers.

Skills

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, CRM database management (asset))
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Typing skills, Organised, Detail-oriented
  • Reliable, good work ethic and attitude, team player
  • Willing to learn, initiative
  • Social Media savvy (Twitter, FB, Pinterest etc.)

This position is funded through Service Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program. The applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start  of employment;
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday with some evening and weekends

Wage $10.25 per hour. Start date June 10, 2013 – August 30, 2013

Fundraising Assistant

Summer Student position

 

 

This position is responsible to assist the Fundraising Coordinator with fundraising initiatives for the Simon Fraser branch of CMHA.  We are looking for an individual who has a working knowledge and understanding of Mental Health and the non profit or charitable environment.  You have excellent organizational and communication skills.  You are comfortable with public speaking and have experience in special event planning.

Responsible for:

  1. Assist and coordinate fundraising events for the CMHA-SF’s in collaboration with the fundraising committee and the Fundraising Coordinator
  2. Research companies for marketing/sponsorship possibilities
  3. Marketing (cold/ warm calling)
  4. Creating marketing materials
  5. Research, input and use fundraising software to manage our applications
  6. Assisting and supporting the Fundraising Coordinator with multiple tasks

Web Content (Marketing)

  1. Maintain and update CMHA-SF’s web content with a marketing focus.
  2. Work with CMHA-SF staff members to enhance the website with photos and stories.
  3. Keep current with emerging web technologies. Research and engage in websites/blogs to increase the visibility of CMHA-SF.
  4. Track and report on site metrics (e.g., Google analytics).

Networking

  1. Attend workshops, seminars and networking events to learn, and to increase our support and visibility in the community.

Skills

  • Experience using Adobe Suite, Strong graphic design skills
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, CRM database management (asset))
  • Research skills are an asset
  • Fundraising and or special events experience
  • Web tracking technologies (e.g., Google analytics)
  • Familiar with desktop publishing, image editing, website editing skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Typing skills (60 wpm), Organised, Detail-oriented
  • Reliable, good work ethic and attitude, team player
  • Willing to learn, initiative
  • Social Media savvy (Twitter, FB, Pinterest etc.)
